Let's explore the importance of a consumer unit and how our services can enhance the safety and efficiency of your electrical systems.
What is a Consumer Unit?
The consumer unit, or distribution board, is the heart of your electrical system. It acts as a centralized hub, distributing electricity to various circuits throughout your property. Its crucial role is to protect your home or business from electrical faults and ensure the safety of your electrical installations. Some boards will have different requirements, and therefore different breaker, or be of different sizes, depending on the needs of the building. Your board should protect the house, be marked correctly and regularly tested.
The Importance of D.B. Changes - Safety
Older consumer units may lack the necessary safety features to protect against modern electrical hazards. By upgrading to a newer consumer unit, you're investing in enhanced safety features that reduce the risk of electrical faults and fires, providing peace of mind for you and your family or employees.
The Importance of D.B. Changes - Compliance
Electrical regulations and safety standards evolve over time. Upgrading your consumer unit ensures compliance with the latest industry standards, keeping your property in line with current regulations and reducing the risk of electrical issues. 2022 saw the introduction of Surge Protection for all new boards, inline with the latest BS7671 regulations, all new Distribution Boards should be metal, and every circuit must have RCD protection.
